Anthropic previews Canvas, Panopto and Wiley integrations for Claude Education

Anthropic previewed integrations with Canvas, Panopto and Wiley that will bring Claude into Canvas courses and add educational materials to conversations in Claude for Education. The company said the integrations with educational tools and resources would roll out over the following few weeks.

Anthropic also announced an expansion of its student programs, its first free AI Fluency course and new institutional participants. The institutions named in the announcement include the University of San Francisco School of Law and Northumbria University.

Educational content inside Claude

Students and educators will be able to connect Panopto and Wiley to Claude through pre-built Model Context Protocol servers, according to Anthropic. The integrations will let users reference Panopto lecture transcripts and explore their universities’ collections of authoritative, peer-reviewed Wiley content without leaving their Claude conversations.

Anthropic said it is working toward allowing students to reference readings, lecture recordings, visualizations and textbook content directly in conversations.

Claude now supports Canvas LTI, or Learning Tools Interoperability. Anthropic said this allows students to use Claude inside their Canvas courses instead of moving between the two platforms.

The company said conversations are private by default and excluded from AI training by default. Anthropic also said it requires formal approval for institutional data requests and has limited self-serve data exports by default.

University partnerships

The University of San Francisco School of Law is integrating AI-supported learning into its curriculum. Dean Johanna Kalb said students in an Evidence course would use large language models during the fall to analyze claims and defenses, connect evidence to elements of causes of action, identify evidentiary gaps and develop trial strategies for admitting or excluding evidence.

Northumbria University is investing in Claude for Education. Vice-Chancellor for Education Graham Wynn said the university wants to provide students and staff with secure and ethical AI tools and support equitable access to those tools.

Expanded student programs

Anthropic said it would expand its student ambassador program tenfold over the following weeks. Applications for the fall cohort were open when the company published the announcement.

The company is also launching Claude Builder Clubs on campuses worldwide. Anthropic described the clubs as communities where students can explore AI through hackathons, workshops and demo nights. Participation is open to students regardless of their major or technical background, and student leaders could apply to start a club on their campus during the fall.

Alongside those programs, Anthropic said it launched its first free AI Fluency course. The announcement did not provide further details about the course.
